Q&A with Michaela!

We love having Michaela teach at WBC and hope you do too!

Q: If we were to see you outside the classroom, what would you be doing?
A: When I am not in the classroom teaching, I am typically in the classroom taking class or rehearsing myself! Otherwise, I like to spend my free time in the company of good friends, discovering and listening to music, reading, or meditating. I also take every chance I get to visit my family in Los Angeles!

Q: Who is your favorite ballet character?
A: I have always been very entranced by the character and story of Paquita. The variations within the ballet are so vibrant and full of life and were always my favorite to learn and perform as a young dancer.

Q: What do you do to get your “creative juices” flowing?
A: For me, I would say the most important key to getting my “creative juices” flowing is to, first and foremost, get myself to the calmest, clearest, and most honest headspace I can. From that place do I feel I have space for my best ideas to flow to the forefront of my mind. In order to do that, I like to meditate, get Reiki, or do a bit of yoga. I am, also, very inspired by music, so I like to allow myself time to simply listen and get connected to whatever piece of music I am using, then from there, improvise to feel out the ways the music inspires me to move.

Q: What else should we know about you?
A: I briefly alluded to this before, but I am a Los Angeles native and have actually only been living in Utah for one year! Although my life is quite a bit different here, I am enjoying it very much. For a little more background, all of my pre-collegiate dance training took place at Los Angeles Ballet Academy, which was my “home away from home” for nearly 12 years and is very dear to my heart. I, then, attended Chapman University in Orange County, CA, where I received a BA in Dance Performance and Minor in Nutrition. I am the middle child of three and am very close with my two siblings, Maegan and Tyler, as well as my wonderful parents. I am a big lover of animals and am pretty much obsessed with my little Yorkshire Terrier, Maxwell. Although he lives in Los Angeles with my family, I try to see him as often as I can!
