ROTATING dance styles
Our rotating style blocks give students the opportunity to experience a diverse range of dance styles, building versatility, artistry, and a more well-rounded dance foundation. Styles may include:
JAZZ TECHNIQUE
Jazz is an energetic and expressive dance style that blends technical precision with performance and personality. Dancers will work on coordination, musicality, and clean execution while developing the sharp, dynamic movement quality that makes jazz so exciting to watch.
CONTEMPORARY
Contemporary blends elements of ballet, jazz, and modern into a style that is expressive, fluid, and athletic. Dancers will explore a wide range of movement qualities while working with floorwork, transitions, and dynamic changes in movement. This class encourages dancers to connect artistry and technique as they move with freedom and intention.
CHARACTER BALLET
Character Ballet introduces dancers to the lively, theatrical style of dance often featured in classical story ballets. Inspired by traditional folk dance, this style helps dancers develop musicality, coordination, performance quality, and a deeper understanding of ballet repertoire. Full of personality and charm, Character Ballet is a fun way to bring storytelling to life through movement.
LYRICAL
Lyrical combines the technique of ballet and jazz with expressive movement that brings music and emotion to life. Dancers will focus on fluidity, control, musicality, and storytelling as they learn to connect deeply to the feeling behind the choreography. This style encourages both strong technique and authentic artistic expression.
BROADYWAY JAZZ
Broadway Jazz captures the excitement, style, and showmanship of musical theatre dance. Dancers will explore expressive performance, musicality, and character while learning movement inspired by the stage. With a focus on projection, personality, and connecting to an audience, this style is great for developing performance quality.
HIP HOP
Hip Hop is a high-energy style that combines rhythm, musicality, sharp accents, and full-bodied movement. Dancers will develop confidence and personal style while exploring the charisma and attitude that make this genre so dynamic and fun to perform. As always at Wasatch, music and movement will be tasteful and age-appropriate.
JAZZ FUNK
Jazz Funk blends the technique of jazz with the flair of hip hop. Dancers will work on precision, musicality, coordination, and performance quality while learning bold, expressive movement combinations.
WORLD DANCE
World Dance gives dancers the opportunity to explore movement inspired by dance traditions from around the world. Through this class, students can expand their artistry, musicality, and cultural awareness while experiencing a variety of rhythms, styles, and movement qualities. It is an exciting way to broaden a dancer’s training and appreciation for dance as a global art form.

workshops
Our rotating workshop blocks give students the opportunity to strengthen specific skills that are essential to their development as well-rounded dancers. Workshops may focus on areas such as:
TURNS
From pirouettes and chaînés to fouettés and turning combinations, this workshop is all about helping dancers become stronger, cleaner, and more confident turners. Dancers will focus on the technique, control, spotting, and placement needed to improve consistency and work toward goals like doubles, triples, and beyond.
LEAPS & JUMPS
In this soaring workshop, dancers will focus on a variety of leaping and jumping movements like grand jetés, switch leaps, C jumps, firebirds and more. Dancers will learn how to build momentum, increase height, and land safely as they work toward leaps that look strong, confident, and effortless.
EXTENSIONS
This workshop is designed to help dancers improve the height, strength, and control of their extensions. Through focused work on placement, flexibility, and muscle engagement, dancers will build the tools needed for higher développés, stronger arabesques, and longer, more beautiful lines.
FLOOR WORK
This contemporary-based workshop helps dancers develop the skills needed to move smoothly, confidently, and dynamically in and out of the floor. Through focused work on transitions, weight shifts, coordination, and flow, dancers will build the strength and control needed to make contemporary floorwork feel fluid, expressive, and connected.
FLEXIBILITY
Greater flexibility can open the door to more freedom of movement, stronger technique, and cleaner lines. In this workshop, dancers will work on safe stretching and mobility exercises designed to improve range of motion, support extensions and leaps, and help the body move with greater ease.
CONDITIONING/PILATES/PBT
Workshops in conditioning, Pilates, and Progressing Ballet Technique help dancers build the strength, alignment, and body awareness that make great dance technique possible.
IMPROVISATION
This workshop invites dancers to move beyond steps and explore their own creativity. Through guided movement exploration, dancers will build confidence and artistry while learning to trust their instincts and discover new ways of moving.
COMPOSITION
This workshop explores the art of choreography. Students will experiment with building phrases, shaping movement, and making artistic choices as they learn how to turn ideas into meaningful, original dance.
VARIATIONS
This workshop gives dancers the opportunity to study and perform choreography from the great classical ballets. As they learn excerpts from the repertoire, dancers will deepen their understanding of ballet style, musicality, artistry, and performance quality. This is a pointe workshop for dancers who are already on pointe.
AND MORE!
Our workshop offerings may continue to expand as we bring in faculty with unique specialties and areas of expertise.

Building Every Day on Ballet
Ballet is at the center of our summer program, and each day includes ballet class as a core part of every dancer’s training. Through exercises at the barre and in the center, dancers build strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and artistry while developing a strong technical foundation. At Wasatch Ballet, we are committed to teaching correct ballet technique in a way that also supports self-expression, personal development, and dancer health. We use the American Ballet Theatre® National Training Curriculum, a high-quality, age-appropriate program designed to help students of all ages and levels grow with strong, healthy, well-rounded training.
